Timeline of our history

Milenia Biotec is dedicated to the development, manufacturing and sales of point-of care lateral flow tests, a technology well known from pregnancy testing. The core products of the company are based on „universal test strips“, a concept allowing quick and simple developments and a simple production process. Milenia Biotec is located in Gießen, a university city with 84.000 inhabitants, 45% of them are students. Gießen is in the center of Germany, 60 km north of Frankfurt/Main with its international airport. From here we serve our customers worldwide direct or via our network of partners and distributors.
2000

Founding

Milenia has been founded by private shareholders in Bad Nauheim. The city, located in the center of Germany, is a spa primarily dedicated to health care since centuries.

2001

QuickLine IL-6

Milenia QuickLine IL-6, the first kit allowing a true point-of-care measurement of IL-6, has been launched by Milenia Biotec. The kit helped neonatologists worldwide to improve the diagnosis of sepsis in preterm born infants and to create the basis to reduce unnecessary antibiotic treatments and unnecessary admissions to neonatal intensive care wards.

2003

PicoScan

PicoScan has been introduced to the market and allowed the (semi-) quantitative measurements of the Milenia QuickLine IL-6.

2003

HybriDetect

Milenia HybriDetect, has been released and became a core product of the company. Milenia HybriDetect is a universal lateral flow strip and serves for any developer as a simple rapid test development platform.

2003

ISO Certification

Milenia Biotec successfully passed the first ISO audit by TÜV Rheinland and was granted a ISO certificate according to EN ISO 13485.

2005

HybriDetect 2T

Milenia HybriDetect 2T has been released to the market. The product allows the detection of two analytes on the same strip and is intended to be used for duplex testing in molecular biology based methods.

2006

First HybriDetect Publication

The first scientific paper citing the use of Milenia HybriDetect in a molecular biology based method has been published by Piepenburg O. et al.

2008

Move to Gießen

Milenia Biotec moves from Bad Nauheim to Gießen, a university city with 84.000 inhabitants, 45% of them are students. The university of Gießen/Marburg with its medical faculty is in the close vicinity of the company.

2008

POCScan

The POCScan instrument for the point-of-care measurement of Milenias lateral flow tests has been launched. It is the first true stand alone instrument available from Milenia Biotec. The first quantitative test available on POScan is Milenia QuickLine IL-6.

2010

Gun Shot Residues

Milenias project „Detection of gun shot residues with a simple lateral flow test“ has been selected by the funding agency AiF as 1 of the 12 most innovative projects for their 2011 calender. AiF has selected the projects from more than 10.000 funded projects.

2011

Antigen and Antibody Development

Milenia Biotec opens an own R&D group dedicated to the development of antigens and antibodies.
